Commercial Array Stops on the Phone: Running Rooftops, Carports and Ground Mounts in the Solar Cleaning App
A commercial solar stop is a different animal from a house. The array may cover a warehouse roof, shade a parking lot or fill a field behind an office park. Access goes through a front desk, a maintenance room or a locked gate with a building contact. The customer may own a dozen buildings across town. The same tech app handles all of it, with the same job card, the same buttons and the same photos.
Small Company, Big Accounts
Even an owner running alone, as in The Owner-Operator's Solar Cleaning App: Cleaning, Routing and Billing From One Phone, may pick up a commercial account or two. As the company grows, commercial work often gets its own truck. Either way, the tech's side works the same.
The Commercial Job Card
The card shows the same panel details as a home job, just with bigger numbers and different values:
- Panel count — often in the hundreds on a commercial roof.
- Mount — roof, ground mount or carport.
- Stories and pitch — a flat roof on a 3+ story building is common.
- Extras — inspection is a frequent one on commercial accounts, along with bird proofing.
The access notes do the heavy lifting on commercial sites.
Access Notes for Commercial Sites
Commercial access is about people and keys more than gates and dogs. Good notes look like this:
- “Check in at front desk. Ask for facilities. Roof hatch key is in the maintenance room.”
- “Use loading dock on the back street. Do not park in fire lane.”
- “Water: hose bib on the roof next to the HVAC units.”
- “Carport array spans the north lot. Arrive before 7am, before employee cars fill it.”
- “Ground mount behind the warehouse. Gate code in notes. Watch for the drainage ditch.”
These notes are saved on the job and show on every quarterly visit, so the tech does not relearn the building each time.
Running a Big Array on the Phone
Big arrays take longer, but the taps are the same. Tap Start when you begin. Take before photos of each section or row, not just one wide shot, because the property owner will want to see the whole array. Clean. Take after photos of the same sections. Tap Complete when every panel on the card is done.
If a big array takes more than one day, or part of it cannot be reached, note exactly what was done: “Rows 1 to 8 done. Rows 9 to 12 blocked by contractor scaffolding. Need return visit.” The office can adjust and schedule the rest.
Commercial roofs often have more going on than a house roof: HVAC units, vents, skylights, conduit runs and roof drains. Note anything the next crew should know, such as a skylight that is easy to miss or a soft spot near a drain, so the next quarterly visit starts with that knowledge on the card.
Building contacts who chose alerts get the automatic on-the-way and arrived texts, so they know when to have the roof hatch open.
Many Buildings, One Property Owner
Commercial customers often own many sites. In SolarCleaningBossPro, that is one client with many addresses, each with its own panel details and access notes. Each building appears as its own job on the tech's list, in route order with the rest of the day.
Billing follows. A property owner or business set to monthly billing gets one statement each month covering every building, with each line labeled with the address. The tech taps Complete at each site, and the statement builds itself. Nobody sends a separate invoice for every carport.
Quarterly Plans and the Waiting List
Commercial arrays are often on a quarterly plan, set by minimum days between visits. Each site comes due on the Waiting List on its own when its time is up. Many companies put commercial sites on their own truck so the long stops do not crowd out residential routes. That setup is covered in Two Trucks, Two Routes: Splitting Homes and Commercial Arrays in the Solar Cleaning App.
Photos Matter More on Commercial Work
Commercial clients often report up the chain to an owner, a board or a management company. Clear before-and-after photos of each section, plus photos of anything unusual like nests, debris or damaged panels, give your contact something to show. They also protect your company if questions come up months later.
Same App, Bigger Stops
Commercial arrays do not need a different app. They need the same job card with bigger numbers, better access notes, more photos and monthly billing in the office. For the rest of the tech app, visit the SolarCleaningBossPro solar cleaning app page.
