The Customer Route View: Showing Homeowners Their Stop Number on the Solar Cleaning Route
“What time will you be here?” is the question every route business gets, and it is a hard one to answer honestly for a solar cleaning crew. Roofs vary. A big steep roof runs long, a gate code fails, a customer asks for bird proofing on site. Instead of guessing a time, SolarCleaningBossPro shows the customer where they are on the route, and lets them watch it move.
The Office Sees the Trucks, the Customer Sees Their Place
Crew GPS on the office map, covered in Crew GPS on the Office Map: Watching Solar Cleaning Trucks Work the Route, is the office's view of the day. The customer route view is the homeowner's version: not every truck, just the one coming to them and how close it is.
What the Customer Sees
On the day of their cleaning, the customer app shows today's route on a live map along with a plain line about their place in it, like “You're stop 12 of 20 — the crew is 5 stops away.” As the tech completes stops, the count goes down. The customer does not need to call, text or guess.
That one line answers the question better than a time window would. A time window is a promise that the morning can break. A stop count is simply true, and it updates as the day goes.
Why Stop Numbers Fit Solar Cleaning
Solar cleaning jobs vary a lot in length. Twelve panels on a single-story roof and fifty on a steep 2-story roof are both one stop, but they take very different amounts of time. Any time window you give a customer at the end of a route is really a guess about the size of every roof before theirs.
Stop numbers avoid that guess. The customer sees progress, not a promise, and can plan around it. Most people only need to know roughly when to open the gate or bring the dog in, and “5 stops away” tells them that.
Working Together With the Texts
The route view works alongside the alerts the customer chose: night before, when they're next, and when the tech arrives. A customer might get the night-before reminder, check the app mid-morning to see they are stop 9 of 11, then get the “you're next” heads-up and the arrived text. Between the alerts and the map, they always know what is happening.
For the office, that means far fewer calls asking where the crew is.
Privacy on the Route Map
A route map shows other stops, which means other customers' homes. A homeowner should see that the crew is five stops away, not the names and addresses of the five neighbors before them. Keep that in mind when you explain the feature to customers: they see their place in the line and the crew's progress, not a list of who else is getting their panels cleaned.
More Than the Map
The customer app is not only for watching the route. Customers can request service, sign up for services and see pricing, update the card on file, see invoices and pay online, and rate and refer. A homeowner who just watched the crew clean their roof and got the invoice the same afternoon is in a good mood, which is a fine moment to ask for a rating or a referral to a neighbor.
Referrals from neighbors also make routes tighter, as covered in Grouping Neighborhoods: Building Tight Solar Cleaning Routes Street by Street.
Keeping the Stop Number Accurate
The route view is only as accurate as the route order and the tech's taps. Two habits keep it honest. First, finish building the route before the day starts, so the order the customer sees is the order the crew will run. Second, have techs work the list in order and tap Complete as they finish each stop. If a stop is skipped, tapping Skip keeps the count right for everyone after it.
When the order does need to change mid-day, the office updates it on the board and the customer view follows.
A Small Thing Customers Notice
Most solar cleaning customers have never had a service company show them where they are in line. It is the kind of small thing they mention to a neighbor. It costs the crew nothing, because it runs from the same taps they already make. For the rest of the routing tools, visit the SolarCleaningBossPro solar cleaning route software page.
