Keeping the Solar Cleaning Schedule Full Year-Round With Recurring Plans

Solar cleaning is seasonal in most places. Spring is a scramble, summer stays busy, fall slows down, and winter can be very quiet. That feast-and-famine rhythm is hard on cash flow and harder on keeping good techs. Recurring plans, set up with a little thought, can flatten the curve so you have steady work most of the year.

The Seasonal Problem

Tagging Solar Cleaning Plan Customers: Twice a Year, Commercial and Beyond showed how to organize plan customers. Here we look at how those customers spread across the calendar.

When every customer calls in spring, every customer gets cleaned in spring. If they all go on yearly plans, they all come due in spring again next year. The plan base grows, but so does the spring crunch, while the rest of the year stays thin.

The goal is not to fight the seasons. It is to stop stacking all your plan work into the same few weeks.

Twice a Year Fills Two Seasons

The simplest fix is selling more twice-a-year plans. A customer cleaned in spring on a 180-day plan comes due again in fall, which is usually a slower time. Every spring customer you move to twice a year adds a fall cleaning to the calendar.

That fall visit is also easy to justify to the customer: after summer dust, leaves and harvest season, panels are often due for attention again. See The Twice-a-Year Solar Panel Cleaning Plan: The Workhorse of a Residential Route.

Stagger Yearly Customers

Not every yearly customer needs a spring cleaning. Some areas get their dirtiest stretch after a dry summer. Some customers do not care which month you come, as long as you come.

When signing up a yearly customer, offer a few windows: right away, late summer or early fall. Because plans run on minimum days between visits, wherever the first cleaning lands is roughly where every future one lands. A few yearly customers moved out of spring each season adds up.

You can also nudge existing customers. If a yearly customer is fine with an earlier or later visit, clean them then, and the 365-day count follows from that day.

Commercial Plans Cover the Gaps

Quarterly commercial plans are the steadiest work you can have. A 90-day plan comes due four times a year, through every season. A handful of commercial accounts keeps a truck busy even in months when homeowners are not thinking about their panels.

Stagger commercial sites so they do not all come due in the same month. If a client has six buildings, cleaning two each month keeps the work steady for your crew and makes the client's monthly statements more even. More on setting up commercial plans is in Quarterly Commercial Solar Cleaning Plans for Arrays, Carports and Rooftops.

Read the Waiting List Ahead

The Waiting List shows what is due now, but pins that are not due yet tell you about the coming weeks. If the map is crowded with not-due-yet homes in one neighborhood, you know a busy stretch is coming. If it is nearly empty, you know a slow stretch is coming and you have time to fill it.

Use that view each month to decide where to spend effort: hiring help for a crunch, or marketing for a lull.

What to Do in Slow Months

When plan work is light, put the time to good use:

Weather in slow months may limit roof work, so stay safe: fall protection always, and no cleaning on icy or wet roofs.

Track how full each month is over a year or two. You will start to see your own pattern: which weeks always overflow and which always run light. That makes the next round of plan sign-ups easier to steer, because you will know which months need more customers and which are already full.

Share that view with your crew, too. Techs who can see steady work ahead are more likely to stay through the slow months.

A Steadier Year

A recurring base spread across the calendar means steadier paychecks, techs you can keep all year and fewer weeks of overtime. For how plans come due and get routed, visit the recurring solar cleaning software page.
