Scheduling and Truck Routes in Solar Panel Cleaning Software: An Overview
Knowing who is due is half the job. The other half is turning that list into a day that makes sense: the right stops on the right truck, in an order that does not have the crew crossing town three times. This overview covers how scheduling and routes work in solar panel cleaning software, without getting into every routing trick.
From Due to Scheduled
The Waiting List: How Solar Panel Cleaning Software Shows Every Cleaning That Came Due covered where due cleanings show up. Scheduling is the step after that. In SolarCleaningBossPro, you pick due pins from the Waiting List map, assign them to a truck and a day, and they move onto the Scheduled List, also called the dispatch board.
New one-time jobs from approved estimates land on the schedule the same way. Everything that is going to happen this week ends up on one board.
The Dispatch Board by Day
The dispatch board shows jobs by day. Each job carries its address, its panel details and its plan, so the office can see at a glance what kind of day each truck has. A day of six single-story homes and a day of three steep two-story roofs are very different days, and the board makes that visible before anyone leaves the shop.
When something changes, the board is where you change it. A customer asks to move to Friday. Rain wipes out Tuesday. A commercial job runs long. Move the jobs on the board and the tech's phone follows.
Filter by Truck
With more than one truck, filter the board by truck to see just that route. A common setup for solar cleaning companies is one truck on homes and one on commercial arrays, which keeps short residential stops and long commercial stops from colliding on the same day.
Employees are assigned to trucks, so when the tech assigned to Truck 2 logs into the tech app, they see Truck 2's day. How that works for companies with several crews is covered in Solar Panel Cleaning Software for Companies Running Two or More Trucks.
Auto-Route From the Shop
Once a truck's stops are set for the day, auto-route puts them in order from the shop:
- Closest First starts near the shop and works outward. Good when you want the crew close to home early, or when the far end of the route can wait for the afternoon.
- Furthest First drives to the far end first and works back toward the shop. Good when you want the long drive done while the crew is fresh and the day to end close to home.
Either way, the order is a starting point, not a rule.
Set Route Order by Hand
Real days have constraints a sorting rule does not know about. A customer who asked for a morning visit. A commercial site that only allows roof access after a certain hour. Two homes on the same street that should be back to back. A steep roof you would rather do before the afternoon heat.
Drag the stops into the order you want. The order on the board is the order on the tech's phone, and it is the order customers see in the customer app when they check where they are in line.
What the Route Means for Customers
Route order is not just an office tool. It drives the customer side too. Because the software knows the order, the customer app can show a homeowner “You're stop 12 of 20 — the crew is 5 stops away” on a live map, and automatic texts go out when they are next and when the tech arrives.
That is why changing the order on the board matters. If you move a stop up, that customer's place in line updates, and their alerts follow the real route.
What the Route Means for Techs
On the tech's phone, the day is a list in route order. Each card has a navigation button, the panel details and the access notes. The tech finishes one stop, taps Complete and moves to the next card. There is more on the tech's side in The Tech App Side of Solar Panel Cleaning Software.
Crew GPS shows each tech on the office map, so the office can see where every truck is against the plan and answer customer calls without phoning the crew.
Keep Scheduling Simple
Good scheduling in a solar cleaning company comes down to a few habits: start from the Waiting List, group stops by area, keep homes and commercial work on separate trucks when you can, auto-route, then adjust by hand for the things only you know. The software handles the sorting, the phones and the customer alerts. To see where scheduling fits with quotes, billing and recurring plans, visit the solar panel cleaning software overview.
